Harry Kane’s penalty goal, along with a second-half goal by Thomas Müller, was enough to secure three points for Bayern Munich after their 2-0 win over Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, continuing the victorious start for new coach Vincent Kompany.
According to Reuters, Bayern was awarded a penalty due to a handball after a VAR review, when the ball touched Freiburg captain Christian Günter’s arm following a header from Kane.
Kane stepped up to take the penalty himself, sending the England striker’s shot to the opposite direction of Freiburg’s goalkeeper Florian Müller, placing the ball into the bottom left corner, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.
The second half was largely uneventful until Serge Gnabry’s pass found Müller, who controlled the ball brilliantly and fired it past the goalkeeper, marking his record-breaking 710th appearance for Bayern with a goal.
Freiburg was awarded a penalty in the dying moments of injury time after a close-range shot from Ritsu Doan struck João Palhinha’s hand. However, Lucas Höler failed to convert it into a goal.
