Sudan and China Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Development Cooperation

Sudan and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative. The signing was done by Dr. Mohammed Bashar Mohammed Adam, Undersecretary for Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, on behalf of Sudan, and Yang Weiqun, Vice President of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, on behalf of China. Sudanese Minister of Finance, Gibril Ibrahim, met with the Vice President of the China International Development Cooperation Agency at the agency’s headquarters on Tuesday. The two sides reviewed the historical relations, cooperation, and friendship between the two countries and discussed ways to expand these relations. They also emphasized the importance of mutual coordination and support in international forums. The Minister congratulated the Chinese government on the successful organization of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and praised the Global Development Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 21, 2021, at the UN General Assembly. He highlighted the initiative’s role in achieving sustainable development goals and supporting the economies of developing countries, affirming Sudan’s support for all development initiatives proposed by China. The meeting also touched on the role of FOCAC in creating strategic partnerships in economic and developmental fields to advance the economies of African countries. The Minister expressed gratitude to the Vice President of the agency for China’s continuous support to Sudan in economic, political, humanitarian, and international forums. On his part, Yang Weiqun reaffirmed the deep historical relations between Sudan and China and emphasized the development of these relations in all fields, particularly in supporting Sudan’s economy and development. He also expressed China’s readiness to participate in the reconstruction phase following the war and reiterated China’s support for Sudan in international forums.
