Geneva Mediators Call for Opening New Crossings

Sudan Events – Reports
The “Allied for Saving Lives and Peace in Sudan” group continued its weekly sessions, holding a virtual meeting last Thursday.
Following the meeting, the group released a statement focusing on expanding emergency humanitarian access and respecting international humanitarian law. Last week, the group facilitated the delivery of an estimated 3,114 metric tons of supplies to around 300,000 people in Darfur, thanks to the courageous efforts of humanitarian workers on the ground.
The group called on Sudanese parties to open additional border crossings, including the Aweil crossing from South Sudan, and continued pressing the Sudanese Armed Forces to adopt a simplified notification system, with full implementation by the RSF, to ease the bureaucratic barriers costing Sudanese lives every day. With more than 25 million people facing hunger and severe famine, the notification should be sufficient to allow humanitarian shipments to move within Sudan.
The group reiterated its engagement with the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF to expand access routes from Port Sudan via Shendi to Khartoum, and from Khartoum to Al-Obeid and Kosti, including through Sennar.
The group also highlighted the RSF’s issuance of new directives to protect civilians and its commitment to accountability, while closely monitoring the implementation of these orders.
The group identified several critical areas, such as Al-Fashir, where both the RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces must immediately de-escalate tensions to protect civilians and ensure rapid relief delivery, in line with the commitments made by both parties in the Jeddah Declaration. The group called on the international community to pressure both sides to achieve this goal.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and achieve an eventual ceasefire. They also emphasized their continued consultation with Sudanese women as part of this platform.
