Curtis Jones Returns to Liverpool Training
Sudan Events – Agencies
Curtis Jones has returned to full training ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. The 23-year-old midfielder missed the last two matches before the international break in September due to a minor muscle issue, but he has now completed his recovery program.
In addition, new signing Federico Chiesa was part of the squad tested at Kirkby’s training center on Tuesday, as he looks forward to making his debut for Liverpool. Chiesa used the international break to build up his fitness after agreeing with Italy manager Luciano Spalletti that his time would be better spent settling into Merseyside rather than joining the national team.
The 26-year-old has not played since Italy’s round of 16 defeat to Switzerland at Euro 2024 in late June. He was frozen out by Juventus coach Thiago Motta when he returned to preseason training in July. Chiesa, who cost Liverpool an initial £10 million fee, trained with the U21s last week while senior players not on international duty took some time off.
Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez, who is serving a five-match international suspension, and Joe Gomez, who was overlooked by England, were among those back at Kirkby on Monday. Both participated in Tuesday’s session, alongside several youth players, including striker Ryo Ngomohwa, who completed his move from Chelsea’s academy last week after receiving Premier League approval.
The England U18 international could make his debut for Liverpool’s U18 team at home against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
South American players Alisson, Luis Diaz, and Alexis Mac Allister will be the last to return from international duty. Manager Arne Slot is hoping to have a full squad at his disposal by Thursday as they prepare for their match against Forest.
