Jaber Launches New Equipment for Sea Ports
Sudan Events – Reports
Member of the Sovereignty Council, Marine Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, stated that Sudan will remain strong and victorious in all fields—political, economic, diplomatic, military, and security. He assured that the country will soon rise to lead Africa and reclaim its position of leadership.
During the inauguration of new handling equipment at the Sudanese Sea Ports Authority in Port Sudan, Jaber directed the Ministry of Transport to intensify efforts to link the country by railway lines to neighboring countries. He also called for the establishment of a national technical institute to train Sudanese workers in maintenance and repair of port equipment.
He highlighted that the new equipment will enhance work quality and pointed out the state’s efforts to develop and rehabilitate Osman Digna Port. He also mentioned the arrival of a passenger ship to operate between Sudan and Egypt next month.
Jaber stressed the importance of managing all economic sectors efficiently to activate port operations and improve individual training for better performance.
Minister of Finance Dr. Jibril Ibrahim described the launch of the new equipment as a significant achievement under difficult circumstances, putting Sudan on par with neighboring ports due to its strategic location. However, he emphasized that efficient use of the ports and qualified personnel are critical. He also noted that the current port revenue is minimal due to weak performance, handling only 200,000–300,000 containers annually, and urged better services at lower costs.
Sudanese Sea Ports Director, Captain Mohamed Hassan Mukhtar, announced several upcoming projects with Russia. He clarified that port operations are tied to multiple entities, including customs and standards authorities. He denied any involvement of the port in the delay of containers, stating that some traders leave their containers at the port for extended periods.
