Iraqi Plan to Resettle Iranian Opposition in a Third Country
Sudan Events – Agencies
Iraq announced the closure of dozens of headquarters belonging to Kurdish parties opposed to Iran, with plans to resettle their members in a third country. National Security Adviser Qasim Al-Araji said on Tuesday that his country has closed 77 headquarters of the Iranian opposition along the shared border in the Kurdistan Region. He added that efforts are underway to resettle members of these groups in a third country in coordination with the United Nations. The Iraqi News Center quoted Iranian television reporting that Al-Araji announced the transfer of members of these groups to six camps: four in Erbil and two in Sulaymaniyah. Al-Araji confirmed the handover of heavy weapons from these parties to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces (Iraqi), while he praised the cooperation of the Kurdistan authorities in concluding the file of the Iranian opposition, which Tehran accuses of “terrorism.” The Tasnim agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, stated that the Iraqi government “forced” groups it described as “terrorist” to evacuate their headquarters and withdraw from the border, saying that the operation is part of the implementation of a security agreement between Tehran and Baghdad.
