African Union officials held extensive consultations with the governments of the UAE and Saudi Arabia to explore ways to end the war in Sudan and reach an agreement for an immediate ceasefire.
The Chair of the AU’s High-Level Committee on Sudan, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, visited the UAE and Saudi Arabia from September 9 to 12, 2024.
During the talks, Chambas stressed that there is no military solution to the Sudan crisis and highlighted the urgent need for a ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access, and the initiation of a comprehensive political dialogue to lay the foundation for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Sudan.
