Max Verstappen, the Dutch driver for Red Bull Racing in the Formula 1 World Championship, mentioned that he may consider moving to the Aston Martin team in the future. This came after the team’s principal, Mike Krack, said that the door would always be open for the Dutch driver following Adrian Newey.
The British news agency (PA Media) reported: “Newey, one of the greatest technical minds of his generation, signed a long-term contract with Aston Martin on March 1st, in a deal worth 20 million pounds annually (7.23 million dollars).”
Newey, 65, who left Red Bull after nearly two decades with the team, made his decision last May.
Verstappen, whose contract with Red Bull runs until 2028, has won the last three World Championships with Newey’s involvement.
Verstappen commented: “This is something that might happen in the future, and I will think about it, but not right now.”
He added: “Newey’s departure is understandable, and I get it. I sent him a message after I heard about it, and I am happy for him.”
The Dutch driver continued: “I have always said I would love for him to stay, but you can’t change anything. I’m just excited for those taking on new challenges.”
He explained: “I know Lawrence Stroll will do everything he can to make Aston Martin successful.”
Krack had previously stated: “The door will always remain open for Dutch driver Max Verstappen to follow Adrian Newey and join the team.”
Krack believes that: “Newey, who has won World Championships with Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, was brought in by Aston Martin’s owner, Lawrence Stroll, which will make the team more attractive.”
Krack added on Thursday: “In my opinion, the door will always remain open for Max Verstappen in every way.”
He continued: “We will become more appealing across all levels thanks to this signing, given the increasing credibility. It is proof that the project can achieve its goals.”
Newey will work with Lance Stroll (25), the son of the team owner, and veteran Spaniard Fernando Alonso (43), a two-time World Champion, whose contract runs until the end of.
