Doctors Without Borders Warns of the Death of Thousands of Sudanese Children

Sudan Events – Reports
Doctors Without Borders has announced a reduction in its services at the Zamzam camp for displaced persons in North Darfur state and warned of the potential deaths of thousands of children if supplies do not arrive.
In a statement, Doctors Without Borders said, “In the absence of supplies, we were forced to reduce our services in the Zamzam camp.”
The organization called on the United Nations and international negotiating parties to consider all available options to quickly deliver food and essential supplies to the area, including air drops.
Michel Olivier Lacharité, Director of Emergency Operations at Doctors Without Borders, said, “We are talking about thousands of children who will die in the coming weeks if proper treatment and urgent solutions are not found to allow humanitarian aid to reach Zamzam.”
He added, “We feel as though we are leaving behind an increasing number of patients who have very few options for receiving life-saving medical care.”
Lacharité continued, “If roads are not an option to deliver large amounts of urgent supplies to the camp, the United Nations must consider every available option, as delays in supplies will cause more deaths, potentially in the thousands.”
