Hamas: Palestinians Should Govern the Gaza Strip

Osama Hamdan, a leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas,” confirmed on Sunday to “Agence France-Presse” that the movement seeks a “joint Palestinian rule” for the besieged and devastated Gaza Strip after the end of the ongoing war with Israel, which has lasted for more than eleven months.
Hamdan, a member of the political bureau of the movement, said in an interview with “Agence France-Presse” in Istanbul: “The next day must be Palestinian. We went to Beijing, negotiated as Palestinians, and agreed to form a national unity government to manage Palestinian affairs in Gaza,” the strip ruled by the movement since 2007.
He also accused the United States of not exerting “enough pressure” on Israel to stop the bloody war in the Gaza Strip, which has entered its twelfth month.
He said, “The U.S. administration is not exerting sufficient or appropriate pressure on the Israeli side; it is instead trying to justify Israel’s evasion of any commitments.”
