North Korea Sends More Waste Balloons Toward South Korea
Sudan Events – Agencies
Late Saturday, North Korea sent more balloons that are likely to contain waste toward South Korea, according to the South Korean armed forces.
This comes three days after it sent similar balloons southward, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.
A statement from South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff indicated that the balloons from North Korea could reach Gyeonggi Province, which surrounds Seoul, warning citizens of potential falling objects and urging them to report any balloons to the military or police.
On Wednesday, North Korea sent about 20 balloons, potentially containing waste, toward the south, but they failed to cross the military demarcation line.
Since late May, North Korea has launched thousands of waste-containing balloons in retaliation for anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent by North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea across the border.
Saturday night’s balloon campaign was the latest in a series of provocations by North Korea this week. On Thursday, North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, marking its first ballistic missile launch since early July.
