The Coordination of IDP Camps in North Darfur warned on Monday that thousands of displaced people in two overcrowded camps are at risk of dying from hunger.
Adam Juma, Coordinator of North Darfur’s IDP camps, stated in a press release that “if the crisis continues for ten more days without aid reaching them, the IDPs in the two camps of Shangil Tobaya are threatened with death from starvation.”
He urged all humanitarian organizations, both governmental and international, to access the area and save the lives of innocent people suffering from the imposed blockade.
Juma called on the RSF, which controls the area, to consider the dire humanitarian conditions of the IDPs and immediately cease its violations against them, lifting the siege it has imposed.
He accused the RSF of preventing the entry of essential goods such as “sugar, flour, onions, and fuel” and confiscating food and medicine that traders attempted to bring into the camps.
“For the past three days, there has been a total shortage of sorghum and onions, while other goods are running out in the markets,” he added.
Juma also accused armed groups affiliated with Arab tribes of attacking IDPs on ethnic grounds and looting their money and livestock used for transportation.
