Sudan Events – Reports
The Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, called for the urgent establishment of a fund for the reconstruction of Khartoum State. He stated that the state recovered in the first week of the war and began providing services to citizens who chose to stay in their homes.
Hamza mentioned in the opening session of the reconstruction and recovery workshop held in Port Sudan that Khartoum has set short-term, immediate, and future plans for reconstruction, emphasizing the importance of continuing life and reconstruction during the war. He highlighted the extensive damage that necessitated the immediate start of reconstruction.
The governor also mentioned that the state has developed a plan for reconstruction, presenting it as a model for a comprehensive national vision for reconstruction in all states affected by destruction. He stressed that the implementation requires partnerships and support from the federal government, organizations, public entities, and scholars to develop projects that can be marketed for internal and external funding.
Governor Hamza also emphasized the importance of recovery, reconciliation, and restoring harmony among different social components. He pointed out that Sudan is large enough for everyone, despite some individuals being tempted by countries from the axis of evil to support and engage in the war.
In turn, the Minister of Federal Governance, Mohamed Kortkila, pledged to sponsor the workshop’s recommendations and coordinate with various entities and states for their implementation.
