Rematch in the German Women’s League Due to a Refereeing Error

The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Thursday the annulment of the result of the Freiburg vs. Bayer Leverkusen match in the German Women’s League and set a date for a rematch.
According to the German News Agency, the DFB made the decision after Freiburg appealed the result of their match against Leverkusen, which they lost 2-3, due to a significant refereeing error during the game.
Bayer Leverkusen still has the option to challenge this decision if they choose to do so.
In the match held on August 31, the referee ordered a retake of a penalty kick for Leverkusen in the 88th minute, which ultimately decided the game in their favor.
Initially, Leverkusen player Christine Kögel missed the penalty, but the referee ruled that Freiburg’s goalkeeper, Raffaella Borggräfe, moved off the goal line early, allowing Kögel to retake the penalty, which she then scored.
According to the rules, referees can only order a penalty retake if the goalkeeper’s early movement clearly affects the penalty taker.
