UN Committee: Israel Violated Global Treaty Protecting Children in Gaza
Sudan Events – Agencies
A UN committee condemned on Thursday Israel’s severe violations of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, stating that its military operations since October 7 have had a “catastrophic” impact on children. The four-member committee said in a document, “The committee strongly condemns the severe violations of the rights stipulated in the convention, occurring in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the massive loss of life due to military actions by the state party (Israel).” Israel’s delegation, during a series of UN hearings earlier this month, said the convention does not apply to Gaza and the West Bank and emphasized Israel’s commitment to international humanitarian law.
