Strategic, Balanced Relations with Russia
Report by: Rehab Abdullah
Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing Sudan’s relationship with Russia. He emphasized that the goal is to establish a balanced strategic partnership rather than a relationship of necessity. During a meeting with a delegation of Russian business leaders, with Sudanese Union Chairman Yasser Al-Jumaiabi in attendance, Dr. Jibril expressed Sudan’s readiness to work with Russia across multiple sectors. He expressed optimism about the mutual benefits that such a partnership could offer both nations. Al-Jumaiabi, commenting on the visit, noted that friends show their true value during challenging times and stressed the importance of building relationships that will benefit both parties in the long run.
Dr. Jibril underscored that Sudan is not approaching Russia out of desperation but out of a desire to establish a strategic and mutually beneficial relationship. He added that during his recent visit to Russia with the Sudanese delegation, they were impressed by Russia’s leadership. Specifically, he mentioned a significant meeting where they spent four hours with President Putin, who demonstrated a deep knowledge of both internal and global affairs, supported by his management style and use of detailed statistics. Dr. Jibril noted that despite the exceptional circumstances Russia faces due to its ongoing conflict with Western nations, Russia’s leadership remains resilient, and Sudan aims to benefit from Russia’s global stance.
