Health Ministry: Cholera Cases Near 13,000

The Sudanese Ministry of Health reported that the total number of cholera cases has reached 12,896, with 388 deaths. The Health Minister, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, held an emergency meeting on Sunday in Port Sudan. In a press statement, the minister revealed that nine states are affected by the disease, including Kassala, Al-Qadarif, Red Sea, Nile River, Northern, Khartoum, Al-Jazirah, White Nile, and Sennar, across 54 localities. He highlighted interventions to combat cholera, pointing out challenges and problems impeding progress. The minister emphasized the need to increase environmental health interventions, food control, and water chlorination efforts. He also mentioned an urgent meeting of the Supreme Committee for Health and Humanitarian Emergencies, with all relevant parties participating to help combat cholera and enhance responses in the affected states.
