Sudanese Investments Fleeing Abroad
Sudan Events – Rebab Abdullah
Hashim Al-Fadil, former Treasurer of the National Chamber of Importers, revealed catastrophic conditions for Sudanese importers and exporters. He admitted that many private business owners in Sudan have gone bankrupt, with some moving their investments abroad, particularly to Egypt, Turkey, Uganda, Juba, Tanzania, and the Gulf.
Al-Fadil pointed to challenges in exporting due to the rainy season, which has caused many roads to close, and also highlighted difficulties in importing. He added that importers are caught between the hammer of recession, weak purchasing power, and liquidity shortages, or risk losing their goods if there are delays in clearance, leading to their sale and the rising costs of port storage and customs.
