Sudan Government Bans Import of “Kror” Cattle from Ethiopia
Sudan Events – Rahab Abdullah
Sources informed Sudan Events that the Exporters Division of the Chamber of Commerce in Al-Qadarif state requested permission from the governor to import “Kror” cattle from Ethiopia due to rising meat prices and the inability to procure cattle from production areas in western Sudan. However, the Veterinary Quarantine Department rejected the request after being contacted by the state government.
Government sources attributed the ban to the ongoing prohibition on the importation of live animals. In an interview with *Al-Ahdath*, they stated that they consulted relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Trade, which confirmed the ban on live animal imports. Nonetheless, other sources called for reconsidering the ban, provided that the cattle meet health requirements. The technical authorities agreed, to make meat more affordable for everyone.
