Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr. Mohyiddin Naim, confirmed the ministry’s readiness to supply fuel for the winter season to all states, including the Northern State. He noted that the ministry, in coordination with the Northern State, is addressing the electricity crisis, which has been exacerbated by large-scale migration to the state and expansion in agricultural and industrial projects.
During a meeting on Tuesday with Northern State Governor Abideen Awadallah Mohammed, the minister discussed the state’s ongoing challenges. The discussion covered efforts to stabilize the electricity supply by expanding the Dabba Power Station and establishing new substations in both Seleem and Gold, as well as securing fuel.
The Minister acknowledged the unique challenges faced by the Northern State, praising the grassroots efforts of its residents to secure electricity. He stressed the importance of coordination between the state and electricity management to provide two transformers with a capacity of 100 KV for the Dabba Station to help stabilize the power supply.
Governor Abideen Awadallah Mohammed explained that the state is facing severe pressure on its electricity services due to the influx of 3.5 million displaced people and significant expansion in agricultural and industrial projects. He confirmed that the state is prepared for the winter season and is working to secure fuel for agriculture.
