Sudan Events – Agencies
Khartoum Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza chaired a meeting on Thursday to discuss an urgent plan to meet the operational needs of the Nile water stations and maintain backup pumps. The aim is to secure a stable water supply in safe areas and regions liberated from the Daqlo militia.
The meeting, which was attended by the Director of the State Water Authority, local branch managers, and specialized administrations, reviewed the current status of water production from Nile sources and underground wells, as well as their distribution to residential areas and service facilities.
Governor Hamza praised the efforts of water authority workers to ensure stable water supplies despite rebel attacks on service facilities. He acknowledged the government’s financial challenges due to halted revenues but assured continuous efforts to provide services amid the return of citizens to their homes and the army’s advances in combat operations.
Mohammed Ali Al-Ajab, Director of the State Water Authority, expressed the workers’ readiness to increase water production to meet citizens’ needs. He mentioned the maintenance of 131 out of 187 wells with an average production capacity of 96,000 cubic meters. Additionally, 41 wells have been prepared as reserves. Al-Ajab also noted the ongoing efforts to reintroduce several Nile water stations after securing pumps and spare parts to enhance water production.
