Sesame and Peanut Harvest Begins in Al-Qadarif
Sudan Events – Reports
The Acting Governor of Al-Qadarif, Dr. Ahmed Al-Amin Adam, stated that the current season promises high yields for various crops in the state, with 9.5 million acres planted. These crops are expected to compensate for the lack of production from several states affected by the war. On Monday, the governor inspected the sesame and peanut harvest in small farmers’ fields and agricultural associations in the Sabouni area of Western Galabat, along with members of the state government and security committee, and representatives from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
The governor confirmed ongoing efforts to address challenges facing the season, including marketing the new production in cooperation with relevant parties at the national level. Meanwhile, the General Director of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, Ammar Abdullah Suleiman, highlighted that sesame was planted on 1.2 million acres, and peanuts on 500,000 acres. He noted that early harvesting of these crops would help avoid pest infestations and allow the land to be replanted with winter crops. He expects high yields based on the indicators and estimates.
The governor also observed the adoption of sunflower cultivation by small farmers in the southern region.
