Sudan Renews Commitment to Regulating Mining and Fighting Smuggling

The Ministry of Minerals has started serious discussions with the Executive Secretary of the Great Lakes Region Organization about ways in which the organization can contribute to regulating mining and combating unregulated border trade.
Minerals Minister Mohammed Bashir Abdullah Abu Numo held a meeting at the ministry with Joao Sarouel, the Executive Secretary of the Great Lakes Organization. The minister reaffirmed Sudan’s full commitment to agreements related to mining regulation, border trade, and combating smuggling, as well as promoting environmentally friendly and child-labor-free mining practices.
The minister noted that Sudan received an invitation to attend the regular meeting of the Great Lakes Organization, which will discuss policies and procedures related to mining regulation and border trade among member states.
