Governor of the Darfur region and leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minawi, announced the elimination of the “elite” Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in North Darfur following fierce battles led by the joint forces in the northern part of the capital of North Darfur.
Minawi, according to Sudan Tribune, said, “The battle of Siyah that took place on Tuesday and lasted for about 12 hours completely wiped out the elite RSF forces in North Darfur.”
He pointed out that their forces, deployed on the outskirts of Milait and Siyah, aimed to secure the flow of humanitarian aid. However, the RSF mobilized a number of units to attack them, transferring forces from several areas, including Khartoum and North Kordofan, with 600 combat vehicles, including a significant number of armored cars.
Minawi added, “The RSF’s plan was to eliminate this force and then invade El Fasher.”
He mentioned that the militia set up several ambushes before the joint force engaged them with six groups. He added, “We eliminated four groups during the battle while two groups fled.”
He explained that the RSF’s plan was to destroy the joint force’s convoy and then invade the city of El Fasher. He noted that the geographical importance of the areas of Siyah and Milait lies in their connection between Libya and North Darfur, as well as linking the Darfur region to the city of Dabba in the Northern State.
Minawi said that the situation in North Darfur requires only one more battle to break the siege on El Fasher.
