UAE: Jail and deportation for British teacher who demanded bribes from students in exchange for modifying test answers and raising their grades
The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals convicted a British teacher and sentenced him to three years in prison, fined him 5,000 dirhams ($1,361), and ordered his deportation after serving his sentence for soliciting bribes from students to alter their answers in test papers and unjustifiably raise their grades, which could harm education in the UAE. According to Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Public Prosecution conducted an investigation and referred the case to the criminal court, where multiple pieces of evidence confirmed the teacher’s actions.
