The Emergency Lawyers group confirmed an increase in violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians on Tuti Island since late September. This followed the advance of the Armed Forces in several areas of Khartoum North and Omdurman, resulting in 35 civilian deaths.
The rights group said in a statement that the militia forces stationed on the island targeted civilians with beatings and humiliation after they left the mosque. The forces raided 15 homes, beating residents, including women, with whips, and threatening them with death.
The statement added that the Rapid Support Forces are targeting communal kitchens, known as “Takaya,” which have been set up to feed island residents through assistance from Sudanese abroad. The militia has been looting these kitchens continuously, along with all shops, especially those selling foodstuffs, exacerbating the humanitarian situation on Tuti due to the severe shortage of food supplies.
The group reported that 35 civilians have died since September 26, due to violence and a lack of healthcare, with a significant number of injuries and critically ill patients.
The statement condemned the ongoing attacks by the Rapid Support Forces on civilians and their starvation tactics, calling on the international and regional communities to condemn these violations and urging pressure on Hemedti’s forces to stop these acts and allow humanitarian aid and medical services to reach the island.
