Information has revealed that the interim five-member presidential committee, formed by the African Union Peace and Security Council during its virtual summit on June 21 to address the Sudanese crisis, has been called to meet in Kampala in October by its chair, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
According to the news website “Al-Muhaqaq,” the committee consists of one president from each of Africa’s five regions. Museveni chairs the committee and represents East Africa, while the Nigerian president represents West Africa, the Egyptian president represents North Africa, the Angolan president represents Southern Africa, and the Equatorial Guinean president represents Central Africa.
Sources speaking to “Al-Muhaqaq” expect that the Kampala summit could achieve a breakthrough in resolving the Sudanese crisis, adding to the results of the African Union delegation’s recent visit to Port Sudan.
Sudanese government sources described the African Union Peace and Security Council’s visit to Sudan as successful, noting that the visit will pave the way for Sudan’s return to the African Union and help find ways to end the war.
