Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bushra, the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, announced that the total cultivated land in Sudan this year amounted to 39 million feddans, of which 17 million feddans were planted with sorghum. Speaking at the Field Day Program at Sarf Saeed Center in Basenda locality, on the border with Gedaref state, the minister explained that the focus on sorghum cultivation aims to achieve food security. He expected a high sorghum yield this season, reaching 10 million tons, while the country’s need for sorghum ranges between 4 and 5 million tons.
The minister dismissed claims of an impending famine in Sudan, citing the country’s vast agricultural land and abundant surface and groundwater resources. He noted that the production in Gedaref state alone is enough to ensure food security for Sudanese citizens.
