UEFA Nations League: England Bounces Back with a 3-1 Win Over Finland
Sudan Events – Agencies
England defeated Finland 3-1, thanks to goals from Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Declan Rice at the “Olympic” stadium in Helsinki on Sunday. This victory put England back on track in the UEFA Nations League after their humiliating loss to Greece last Thursday.
England now sits second in Group B of League B with nine points from four matches, tied with leaders Greece, who have played one fewer game. Finland remains at the bottom with no points.
Grealish opened the scoring in the 18th minute, Alexander-Arnold doubled the lead with a stunning 20-meter free-kick in the 74th minute, and Rice headed home a cross from substitute Ollie Watkins ten minutes later.
Arto Hoskone narrowed the gap for Finland with a header in the 87th minute.
England coach Lee Carsley made six changes to the lineup that lost 2-1 to Greece at Wembley Stadium, including the return of team captain Harry Kane from injury. He also reverted to a traditional lineup after his experimental formation without a true striker failed against Greece.
