Shendi: Targeting over 200,000 acres in the winter season

Intensive preparations have begun in the Shendi locality for the upcoming winter agricultural season, with a target of approximately 202,000 acres. Of this, 15,800 acres will be dedicated to wheat, while the remaining land will be used for other crops such as onions, peanuts, potatoes, beans, fodder, and various vegetables.
The Executive Director of Shendi locality, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar Al-Sheikh, who chaired the winter season committee meeting, emphasized the importance of thorough and complete preparations with close monitoring throughout all stages of the season, from planting to harvest.
He confirmed the locality’s readiness to address all issues related to the winter season, especially irrigation and energy concerns. The director stressed the critical role wheat will play this season, particularly in government and investment projects, which are expected to enjoy preferential advantages in areas like energy and irrigation.
He also highlighted the importance of exploring alternatives to costly fuel, such as shifting toward electricity and solar energy, which are considered the best options among the alternatives.
Furthermore, Engineer Mohamed Mousa Al-Khadr, Director of Agriculture in Shendi, noted that preparations for the winter season are well advanced and that his department’s staff has gained significant experience over the years. He expressed optimism about the success of this season in terms of both preparations and productivity.
The next winter season committee meeting is expected to include representatives from the electricity and irrigation departments, the Agricultural Bank, and investment project representatives. Attending the recent meeting were the directors of the Meseikatab and Kabushiya projects, agricultural inspectors from North and South Shendi, and the director of guidance and plant protection, along with the director of the Agricultural Technology Transfer Fund.
