Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Sudan has called on the international community to take decisive and punitive actions against the rebels and the regional powers supporting them, particularly the UAE.
Sudan’s permanent representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Magdy Ahmed Mofaddal, expressed the country’s hope to strengthen its partnership with the international community in combating transnational organized crime under the extraordinary circumstances Sudan is facing.
In a statement to the 12th session of the United Nations Conference on Combating Transnational Organized Crime, held in Vienna from October 14-18, 2024, Ambassador Mofaddal urged the international community to provide technical and logistical support to institutions engaged in fighting organized crime. He emphasized that the current challenges are exacerbating issues like illegal migration, human trafficking, and arms smuggling.
He also stressed the importance of regional cooperation to facilitate the work of Sudan’s National Committee for Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime, focusing on the recovery of stolen assets and the extradition of criminals.
In a related context, Ambassador Mofaddal underscored that discussions on enhancing international cooperation to combat organized crime cannot be separated from the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the RSF rebels. He called on the international community to take firm and punitive measures against the rebels and the regional powers supporting them, specifically the UAE.
