Human Rights Watch: Ethiopian Clashes Endanger Sudanese Refugees

Sudan Events – Agencies
Human Rights Watch stated on Thursday that the recent clashes between Ethiopian government forces and the Fano militia in the northwest Amhara region pose a severe threat to Sudanese refugees in camps along and near the Sudanese border.
The organization emphasized the need for the Ethiopian government to increase protection for refugees, who have been subjected to violations and attacks by unidentified armed groups and militias, as well as government forces, for more than a year.
Letitia Bader, Deputy Africa Director at Human Rights Watch, said, “Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia have been targets of abuses for more than a year by various armed groups. These refugees fled horrific violations in their homeland and are in dire need of protection, not further threats to their lives.”
