UN: “Sudan’s Conflict” Threatens an Entire Generation

Sudan Events – Agencies
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that the conflict in Sudan threatens the future of an entire generation, with 24 million children at risk of losing their rights to life, survival, protection, education, health, and development.
The committee affiliated with the UN commission focused on children’s rights called for an immediate end to severe violations against children and an end to their recruitment and use in battlefields. The committee noted that thousands of children have been killed since the outbreak of the war.
It revealed alarming reports of children being subjected to rape and deprivation of basic necessities, among other international law violations, including violations of children’s economic and social rights. The committee stated, “There has been a sharp increase in the number of children killed or victims of sexual violence used as a weapon of war… Children face greater risk due to the widespread recruitment of child soldiers in many areas of Sudan.”
