China: Our Debt to Sudan Will Not Hinder Economic Cooperation

The Chinese government has affirmed that its debt to Sudan will not be an obstacle to ongoing economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that China and Sudan are strategic partners.
According to the Chinese ambassador in Sudan, as reported by the Sudan News Agency, the Chinese debt issue has existed for several years, and there is a bilateral mechanism and a joint committee between the two countries to address and follow up on this vital issue.
The ambassador mentioned that the visit of Vice President of the Sovereign Council Malik Agar to China in November 2023 included discussions about the debt with Chinese officials, and that these discussions have continued until recently.
He affirmed China’s appreciation for Sudan’s regional role, praising Sudan’s stance on the Taiwan issue and other human rights-related matters.
He added that China and Sudan will continue to support each other in regional and international forums, serving the interests of both peoples.
According to World Bank reports, China’s debt to Sudan is estimated at around $6 billion.
