The Sovereignty Council chairman and the commander of the armed forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received a written message from the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, regarding bilateral relations and ways to support and develop them, as well as issues of mutual interest.
Al-Burhan met with Tut Gatluak, the security affairs advisor to the President of South Sudan, who delivered the message on Sunday.
Gatluak stated in a press release that the meeting addressed the issue of South Sudan’s oil and the need to overcome the obstacles hindering the flow of oil through Sudanese territory.
He highlighted South Sudan’s interest in oil, considering it a priority, as the oil flow begins from the pipelines in Jebelain and passes through all Sudanese territories to reach Port Bashair.
Gatluak said that the chairman of the Sovereignty Council instructed the relevant authorities to facilitate and resolve all obstacles hindering the flow of South Sudan’s oil through Sudan.
He also confirmed South Sudan’s readiness to implement agreements made with Sudan, adding that all technical teams in both countries are prepared to increase production and ensure the oil flows through Port Bashair.
Gatluak explained that his visit to Sudan, under the directives of President Salva Kiir, aimed to follow up on all issues related to South Sudan’s oil, noting that the oil pipeline has been affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, impacting the people of South Sudan.
He emphasized that the chairman of the Sovereignty Council expressed Sudan’s willingness to provide any assistance needed to facilitate the flow of South Sudan’s oil and provide all necessary support in this regard.
Gatluak added that an agreement was reached to hold a meeting between the energy and oil ministries of both countries to discuss ways to address this issue, highlighting that oil is a lifeline for the people of both nations.
The delegation from South Sudan included, alongside the president’s security advisor, the ministers of the presidency and oil, as well as the general director of the intelligence agency.
