Mohamed Bashar Mohamed, the planning official at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, announced that Sudan has received grants worth approximately $435 million from the World Bank for various vital projects in health, water, education, and agricultural production sectors.
In a press statement, he said that the World Bank approved a $130 million grant to finance the Sudanese Community Resilience Project, aimed at supporting poor families amid the war by providing agricultural inputs and enhancing farmers’ capacities in rural areas. The grant will be implemented through the World Food Program.
He disclosed another grant in process at the World Bank, worth around $83 million, for an emergency program supporting healthcare services and hospitals by providing medicines, equipment, and support for health workers, executed through UNICEF and the World Health Organization. UNICEF is also implementing another World Bank grant, worth approximately $42 million, for emergency education support aimed at reopening schools, providing equipment, and accommodating displaced children.
Bashar mentioned another $100 million grant under process through the International Development Association to support crisis response and social protection, executed through the World Food Program and UNICEF to address food security emergencies. He revealed an additional expected grant of about $80 million from the bank to expand the community resilience project, increasing its geographical reach and beneficiary count following the restoration of security post-war.
