Speakers at the workshop on agricultural financing, insurance issues, and guarantees for the success of the winter season agreed that the high productivity of all winter crops and vegetables should be the ultimate goal of all concerned parties.
The speakers at the enlightening workshop on agricultural financing and insurance, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Forestry in Nile River State in collaboration with the Union of Insurance Companies and the Agricultural Bank sector, emphasized the need to resolve all challenges faced during the winter season stages. They stressed that farmers should not be affected by financing and insurance policies from banks and insurance companies in case of crop damage.
The head of the Agricultural Bank Investment Unit, Abdel Moneim Mohammed Mohammed Khair, stated that the success of the winter season is crucial, and all efforts must be coordinated to achieve it. He highlighted the bank’s higher directives to ensure the success of the winter season, especially the wheat crop, given the country’s current circumstances and the Agricultural Bank’s role in this field. He expressed confidence in the bank branches’ performance, especially in Nile River State, in implementing the policies and guidelines issued by the bank’s headquarters.

Khalid Mahjoub Saleh, a representative of insurance companies responsible for agricultural insurance in the Nile River and Northern regions with the Cooperative Insurance Company, emphasized the importance of production during these times. He stated that the workshop aimed to stimulate production and focused on agricultural financing and insurance, resulting in excellent recommendations. He affirmed that insurance ensures the continuity of agricultural work and that farmers do not lose their capital in case of a calamity, thereby protecting the country’s overall economy.
The Director of Agriculture in Shendi locality, Mohammed Musa Al-Khidr, mentioned that the workshop opened new avenues for farmers regarding agricultural financing and insurance. He noted that representatives from the Agricultural Bank and finance companies presented policies and guidelines clearly and simply, avoiding complications.

The workshop highlighted the need for a portfolio to purchase agricultural products or set a fixed price, especially for wheat, and that farmers should repay their loans in kind rather than in cash. It also stressed the importance of providing improved seeds, noting that seeds from international organizations may not be suitable for the climate and nature of the Nile River region or other areas.
The workshop began with a field visit to the Masekitab agricultural project.
