Sudan Events – Agencies
The special envoy of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to Sudan, Lawrence Korbandi, said that the ongoing conflict in Sudan for more than a year and a half has placed women and children in the face of severe and destructive challenges, stressing that they are the most affected by the war.
Korbandi revealed that women and children make up 70% of the displaced and refugees, who are facing increasing difficulties in accessing food, security, education, and healthcare, with 600,000 people, particularly women and children, facing gender-based violence.
Speaking at the annual Regional Women’s Forum titled “Amplifying the Voice of Sudanese Women in Ending the Long Conflict,” on behalf of IGAD’s Executive Secretary, he disclosed that humanitarian organizations have identified more than 13 million children in need of humanitarian assistance.
