Humanitarian Aid Commission Launches Aid to Five States
Sudan Events – Follow-up
On Friday, the Humanitarian Aid Commission launched humanitarian convoys bound for Kassala, Gedaref, Khartoum, River Nile, Northern, and Red Sea states, in coordination with the Humanitarian Emergency Technical Mechanism at Port Sudan’s Air Defense Base. Salwa Adam Benya, the Commissioner-General, renewed the government’s commitment to delivering relief and humanitarian aid to the states consistently. She called on the international community and donors not to store aid and to ensure fair distribution to eligible citizens, asserting, “We will not let the states be deprived; we strive to reach them by all means.” She also announced relief deliveries to South, North, and West Kordofan states.
Benya disclosed that a government delegation would visit Juba to discuss ways of delivering aid to Kadugli and Delling and noted the closure of the Deba-Fashir road. She indicated that access to certain areas in Darfur could be achieved through open roads and committed to adopting measures to guarantee aid delivery and alternatives to air drops by air transport. The commissioner emphasized the need to treat citizens fairly, irrespective of their locations, under their commitment to the Jeddah Declaration, and announced opening more crossings and easing procedures. She accused unnamed parties of working toward specific objectives aimed at undermining the government’s and commission’s commitment to aid delivery and called on the international community to condemn the detention and obstruction of humanitarian trucks by militias.
