UEFA Allocates One Billion Euros to Develop Women’s Football

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Wednesday that it would allocate one billion euros (1.08 billion dollars) from competition revenues and investments to support women’s football development across Europe over the next six years.
This commitment is part of UEFA’s new strategy to increase the popularity of women’s football across the continent. Funds will be directed to clubs, national teams, and various competitions, with the aim of having 5,000 professional female players and six professional leagues in Europe by 2030.
Nadine Kessler, UEFA’s Head of Women’s Football, said in a statement, “European women’s football has never been in a better place.”
She added, “It has become a popular sport, attracting a growing and diverse fan base, as well as dedicated partners contributing to its growth.”
Women’s football has seen significant growth in both revenue and public interest in recent years, with the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand generating over 570 million dollars.
The Women’s Super League in England also reached record revenues in the 2022-2023 season, with over one million spectators attending matches in the top two divisions in 2023-2024.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin stated that the six-year strategy would lay the groundwork to fully unlock the potential of women’s football.
He added, “Our commitment to this cause remains as strong as ever. Our mission is simple: to help women’s football achieve the prominent position it deserves in European sports.”
