Finance Minister Returns After Participating in IMF and World Bank Meetings

Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, Sudan’s Minister of Finance, returned to the country on Saturday after leading Sudan’s delegation at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington, D.C. The minister participated in key official sessions and several side meetings, including discussions with the Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Development, the African Group I at the World Bank, and the President of the African Development Bank Group. He also met with the World Bank’s Executive Director for the Epidemics Fund and discussed Sudan’s post-conflict reconstruction needs with the World Bank’s country director in Sudan, with participation from the Ministry’s Planning Undersecretary, Mohamed Bashar.
The minister highlighted the importance of international financial institutions and development partners responding to the needs of Sub-Saharan African countries, which face climate challenges, poverty, instability, and a heavy debt burden. He emphasized the need for these financial institutions to recognize the realities of these countries and support debt relief without hindering development efforts.
