Fonseca Urges Milan to Defeat Real Madrid
AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has expressed his confidence ahead of the team’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid, urging his players to seize the opportunity against the reigning champions in Madrid on Tuesday. Fonseca conveyed that, while he respects Real Madrid, he does not fear them, and he’s pushing his team to approach the game with a winning mentality.
Despite Milan holding the second-highest number of Champions League titles with seven, behind Real Madrid’s 15, their last victory was in 2007. Real Madrid, however, has claimed six titles in the past eleven seasons. Fonseca emphasized that Milan will play with determination and competitiveness at the Santiago Bernabéu, seeing this match as an invaluable chance to prove their ability to compete at the highest level.
“We’re facing a team that strives to win the Champions League every year, and for us, it’s a tremendous opportunity to advance in a unique setting,” Fonseca said in a press conference. “We’ll play fearlessly and with courage, as we believe in our capability to deliver an exceptional performance and achieve something remarkable. Our aim is to win; Real Madrid is a formidable team, but we’re going there with the objective to claim victory. After that, anything is possible.”
Fonseca added that to win, Milan must defend well, control possession, and create dangerous opportunities, noting that the match is an excellent chance to showcase the team’s growth and skill on the international stage.
Real Madrid currently sits 12th in the Champions League standings, with six points, while Milan is in 25th place, trailing the qualification zone with three points from three matches.
Fonseca admitted that he analyzed Barcelona’s recent 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in La Liga and had his players watch it as well to study their opponent’s tactics closely.
