Sudan Events – Agencies
Governor of Nile River State, Mohamed Al-Badawi Abdelmajid Abu-Quroun, expressed his delight at initiating steps for establishing a gold refinery in the state. During the ceremony on the Atbara-Port Sudan road, he stated that the project would help regulate gold production and curb smuggling. Nile River State produces about 65% of Sudan’s gold, and the governor noted that the region is also rich in other valuable minerals like uranium, copper, iron, manganese, and white sand. Abu-Quroun emphasized the need for major companies to invest in the area while considering community rights and corporate social responsibility. The refinery project aligns with other strategic projects in the state, including the expansion of Atbara Airport, which will facilitate exports and help combat smuggling.
