Recent reports from protection organizations in the states of Kassala and Gedaref revealed the documentation of 18 cases of gender-based violence, as part of the humanitarian response to provide support to survivors.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan (OCHA) announced in its latest report on Tuesday that concerning reports had emerged about sexual violence against young girls and adolescents, with no confirmation yet of cases of suicide among women and girls who had been subjected to sexual assault and violence.
The report highlighted that 3,433 individuals have been assisted through protection sessions and psychosocial awareness programs, and 100 patients suffering from psychological trauma have been admitted to a special mental health office, most of them being women and girls.
OCHA confirmed the displacement of approximately 135,400 people (equivalent to 27,081 families), 50% of whom are women and children, from various locations in the Al-Jazeera state following an outbreak of armed violence and attacks on more than 30 villages and towns since October 20. These displaced individuals have settled in 16 localities across the states of Gedaref, Kassala, and the River Nile.
Field reports also indicated the presence of missing or separated children, children injured by gunshots, in addition to reports of arbitrary arrests and detention of children.
