Manchester City suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage. Sporting’s striker, Viktor Gyökeres, shined with a hat-trick, scoring in the 38th minute, the 49th minute from a penalty, and the 80th minute also from a penalty. Teammate Maximiliano Araujo added another goal in the 46th minute. Phil Foden scored City’s only goal in the 4th minute.
Sporting, playing their final match in the competition under new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, temporarily moved up to second place with 10 points, while Manchester City stalled at 7 points, currently in sixth place.
