Donald Trump Elected President of the United States
Republican candidate Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election, becoming the 47th President of the United States with 277 votes, compared to 224 for his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.
Several television networks announced Trump’s victory, marking the return of the former president, now 78 years old, to power in the world’s leading country after a long campaign marked by numerous ups and downs, during which he faced legal conviction and two assassination attempts.
Earlier, Trump said in a speech from his campaign headquarters in Florida, “I achieved a historic victory. We won the swing states and the popular vote, securing 315 votes, which is a wonderful feeling that reflects the people’s love.”
Speaking to a crowd of his supporters, he added, “The Lord saved me to save the country. This is a political victory the likes of which our country has never seen before. My victory is a historic political consensus, and we thank the American people for this honor by electing me as President again. Today is a victory for democracy; we have made history and overcome many obstacles.”
