Republicans Seize Majority in the Senate
The Republican Party took control of the Senate after Council member Deb Fischer was re-elected from Nebraska.
After winning at least 51 seats, the Republicans are heading towards controlling the Senate for the first time in four years. This gives the party significant power in Washington and important authority to confirm members of the upcoming government. With several states still undecided, Republicans still have an opportunity to enhance their majority.
The Republicans won a seat previously held by Democrats in West Virginia, according to predictions by CBS News and Fox News. Republican Jim Justice will replace former Democrat Joe Manchin, who did not run for re-election. The Republicans’ victory was expected in this right-leaning state. Democrats currently hold a very slim majority in the Senate (51 seats to 49), and any seat gained by Republicans threatens their chances of retaining the majority.
Fox News predicted the Republicans had won fifty Senate seats so far. The Republicans won a seat previously held by Democrats in Ohio, according to U.S. media predictions, marking the second defeat for Kamala Harris’s camp at the hands of Donald Trump’s camp.
The winner was Bernie Moreno, born in Colombia, who previously worked as a car dealer and managed to oust Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, who had held his seat since 2007 and was hoping to retain it for a new term.
