UNIDO Pledges $6 Million Project for Women’s Agricultural Enterprises

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) pledged to continue the third phase of a project supporting women’s agricultural enterprises in Sudan, funded by the Canadian government with $6 million. UNIDO’s president, Gerd Müller, met Sudanese Agriculture Minister Dr. Abubakr Al-Bushra at the “World Without Hunger” conference in Addis Ababa, pledging to implement an agro-industrial development project in Gedaref State, focusing on sesame production, funded by the European Union with €5 million. They also confirmed a project to optimize irrigation and solar energy use in the Red Sea State. Minister Al-Bushra requested support for rehabilitating the Gezira Project’s irrigation systems and genetic seed bank, with Müller promising support for Sudan’s agricultural and agro-industrial development.
