Directives to Address Pending Urban Planning Issues in Khartoum

Sudan Events – Follow-up Reports

On Monday, the Khartoum State Urban Planning Committee resumed its activities, holding its first meeting under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza.

The governor noted that there are significant, long-standing issues, particularly in Karari locality, including the completion of village organization and enforcing the Urban Planning Ministry’s authority over land matters. He stressed the need to activate the Land Protection Unit and enforce regulations to prevent encroachments, as well as to strengthen the Building Department’s role in tackling informal construction. The governor also called for a review of the master plan and an assessment of the localities’ needs to plan new markets as replacements for those no longer in service.

During the meeting, it was decided that Engineer Abdel Wahid Abdullah, Director-General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation, would chair the Urban Planning Committee until a new Director-General for the Urban Planning Ministry is appointed.
