The Expatriate Affairs Authority: Committed to Community Formation for the Post-War Period
Sudan Events – Reports
The Sudanese Expatriates Affairs Authority reaffirmed the necessity of forming Sudanese communities abroad in line with the regulatory framework, in consultation with relevant entities, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Sudanese consulates and embassies in host countries, to address post-war needs.
Dr. Abdel Rahman Sayed Ahmed Zain Al-Abidin, Acting Secretary-General of the Sudanese Expatriates Affairs Authority, and Dr. Hassan Babiker Ahmed, Director-General of Communities and Migration Affairs, recently met with Sudan’s ambassador to Oman, Ambassador Salah El-Kundo, and the Sudanese Consul General in Jeddah, Ambassador Kamal Ali Osman. They emphasized that the formation of communities for the reconstruction phase will adhere to the organizational regulations and the 1998 Sudanese Expatriates Affairs Law.
Sayed Ahmed highlighted the authority’s commitment to establishing effective Sudanese service organizations that remain free of political agendas to prevent past issues from resurfacing. He underscored the importance of respecting community members’ consensus in selecting their representatives without interference from the authority during election phases, ensuring these organizations serve optimally during reconstruction.
Dr. Hassan Babiker Ahmed, Director-General of the Communities and Migration Department, emphasized that these communities should be formed by individuals who are broadly agreed upon, with interim steering committees to guide initial stages, eventually leading to permanent community structures.
The meetings addressed arrangements for forming Sudanese communities in Saudi Arabia according to a proposed plan, as well as the circumstances of Sudanese residents in Oman, especially issues stemming from the suspension of transit visas for Sudanese traveling to Saudi Arabia. The Expatriate Affairs Authority also discussed the formation of a community in Oman and the education of Sudanese children in the Sultanate.
The ambassadors expressed their readiness to cooperate with the authority in its efforts and visions for forming healthy Sudanese communities in representation countries, contributing to Sudan’s post-war reconstruction efforts. The Expatriates Affairs Authority also congratulated Ambassador Kamal Ali Osman on his appointment as Sudan’s Consul General in Jeddah.
